Each year, the Public Works Department designs and manages approximately 50 construction projects, ranging from infrastructure improvements to facility upgrades. These projects enhance the quality of life for our residents and support public safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency across county properties. Types of Projects We Manage:
- Building Renovations & Additions - Modernizing county-owned buildings for safety and efficiency.
- Mechanical & HVAC - Upgrading mechanical and building automation systems for more efficient operations and building performance.
- Energy Management - Incorporation of photovoltaic systems on numerous projects. Increased implementation of sub metering of systems to enhance operations.
- Green Infrastructure & Sustainable Design – Aligning with the county’s “Green Building” policy to promote eco-friendly construction along with improving resiliency.
- Civil, Concrete, & Site Work - Improving roads, bridges, and public spaces.
Spotlight on Notable Projects
- Alliant Energy Center Pavilion Plaza Development - Created an area for dining, sitting and wayfinding for event participants while improving access for vendors, exhibitors and food service providers.
- Parking Ramp Restoration - Extending the lifespan and improving the functionality of a key infrastructure asset.
- Electric Vehicle Charging Stations - Expanding infrastructure to support sustainable transportation.
- East District Campus Public Safety Communication Center Geothermal Addition - Implementing electrified mechanical systems to reduce Dane County’s carbon footprint
- Parks Facilities Improvements - Fishing Piers, Boat Launches, Boardwalks and Bike/Pedestrian Trails within Dane County are frequently being enhanced for recreational access and safety.
